Looking for some laid back, knee slapping humour to wind down the week with? Well, look no further than these 3 instant hits curated by us here at A Little Seed!

Mr Unbelievable

Released in 2015, “Mr Unbelievable” is a musical comedy based around the viral song ‘Unbelievable’ that was released a few months prior in Singapore and Malaysia. The movie follows Eric Kwek, a getai singer, on his journey towards stardom as he tries to sell to the world his unique style of singing English lyrics through traditional Chinese songs.

Right from the start of the movie, the humour is kicked into high gear, raising the bar and expectations for the rest of the movie. From quick jokes that’ll get a chuckle out of you, to extremely long and drawn out gags that are painfully awkward yet irrefutably hilarious, this movie will have you clutching your stomach in laughter in no time.

An instant cult classic amongst Singaporeans, the amazing cast and perfect portrayal of each character in the film truly paved the path for this movie to be as enjoyable to watch as it is. Fair warning after watching the film the accompanying songs will remain in your head for weeks to come; you are un-un-un-un-un-un-un-un-un- believable~

Lucky Boy

Released in 2017, “Lucky Boy” is a coming-of-age comedy film about a rather unlucky boy who is constantly surrounded by misfortune, stuck in a complicated romance with his childhood crush.

The film is filled with ‘Singaporean style’ humour; the kind of slapstick humour that just gets you laughing no matter what age you are. Perfectly casted, the actors bounce off one another and keep the ball rolling, pulling you into the movie with them like you’re part of their group, making your laughter all the more genuine. The movie even features a callback to the popular film “Ah Boys to Men”.

With the basis of the film being that the main character is unlucky, there are an abundance of scenes that keep you on the edge of your seat and just make you want to scream as the complicated relationship between him and his love interest progresses. However, at the end of the day with its long awaited happy ending, the film leaves you with a feeling of completion after having followed through the story.

My 2 Mommies

Released in 2018, “My 2 Mommies” is a Filipino comedy about how an accidental affair between two unsuspecting individuals, a woman and a gay man, leads to a peculiar family dynamic, where they both have to play “mommies” to the same child.

This film is entertaining from start to finish, be it through humorous exchanges between colourful characters, or through heartwarming and dramatic scenes. Critically acclaimed, a box-office hit and graded an A by the Cinema Evaluation Board, “My 2 Mommies” has been described by countless Filipino reviewers as a ‘must watch’. It is also considered to be one of the main actors, Paulo Ballesteros’,  best performances since “Die Beautiful”, another box-office hit.

With a gentle touch, this film not only proves its worth as a comedy, but also doubles as a heartwarming story that will leave an impression. A fantastically unique story, this film is one of a kind and yet delivered in such a way that anyone can sit down and enjoy it in all its humour and entertainment.
