3 Movies to Get Your Blood Racing

Ah the classic trope of thriller movies, what better way to get your blood pumping than with suspenseful scenes cloaked in sprinkles of fear and horror. Here are 3 movies you should check out if you’re looking to chase that adrenaline, or just looking for a reason to hold your date tight.

The House That Jack Built

Released in 2018, this movie explores the life of a psychopath and serial killer, Jack, as he recounts a series of murders he committed over a period of 12 years, which he considers to be a work of art.

The movie is unlike any other thriller out there; it is eerily silent with a lack of classic jumpscares or spine-chilling music to scare the audience. Instead, it is exactly this silence and nonchalant atmosphere that keeps you on edge as the gruesome and gory scenes unfold before your eyes, drawing you into the world together with the killer.

If there was one word to describe this entire movie, it would be ‘uneasy’. Through its unnerving storytelling, the ending that simply felt dreadfully long, was somehow so captivating that it would keep you holding your breath throughout the entire scene.

Intruder

Released in 2020, Intruder is a South Korean mystery thriller about a lost daughter, Yoo-jin, who returns home after going missing 25 years ago. However, there is something suspicious about her and she may not be the person that everyone thinks she is.

This movie does a very good job at keeping up a constant sense of suspense amongst the audience, from the creepy way that Yoo-jin carries herself, to the introduction of more characters and strange behaviors that build up this larger mystery shrouding the entire movie.

Intruder takes you on a journey, giving you the same clues and details as the main protagonist, at the same time. It doesn’t have intense jumpscares, but instead slowly builds up suspense to reveal the true nature of Yoo-jin; all this happening whilst holding the audience captive.

23:59

Released in 2011, 23:59 is a classic horror movie that follows the story of a platoon of Singaporean army recruits who are about to complete their basic military training on a jungle island. However their lives are put in danger as a spirit haunts their bunk.

The movie has a classic formula of a horror thriller; the uneasiness of creepy background music and visuals set up bone chilling jumpscares that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The constant conflict between all the characters creates tension so thick that you could cut it with a knife. However all of this is overshadowed by the presence of a supernatural force, uniting them under the common goal of… well, not dying.

It’s the perfect film to get some quick frights and to get your adrenaline pumping. (Extra note: the ‘antagonist’ of the show is actually so creepy it will genuinely make your body cringe when you see it).

So are you brave enough to face these movies head on? Our suggestion is to grab a bowl of steamy popcorn, curl up under a blanket in the dark of night and catch these spine tingling films, available on Apple TV (iTunes Movie store) here:
