3 Romantic Movies to Catch on Valentine’s Day

It is that time of the year when some of us empty our wallets to buy overpriced flowers and chocolates for our loved ones. And for the rest of us, we curse the idea of a “Valentine” because who needs one when it is way more fun to be single?! It doesn’t matter which side of the coin you belong to, here are 3 movies from us here at A Little Seed that we think you should catch on Valentine’s Day.

1. Love is Blind

Released in 2016, “Love is Blind” is a comedy about a girl who is considered ugly by many standards. She devises a plan and uses a magic potion to make her crush see her as an exceptionally beautiful lady.

The film has a very different formula for a standard ‘true- beauty-comes-from-within’ lesson, featuring many interlocking parts of a much wider story. The humour in this film really complements the interactions between the characters. That, coupled with carefully planned camera switches between what ‘Prince Charming’ sees compared to everyone else, being the beautiful girl compared to her true, unattractive form.

The pacing of the show is just right despite the rushed character development towards the end. There is a good balance of jokes and sensitive moments to tug at your heartstrings. With a wonderfully heartwarming yet unexpected ending, everything ends up in a nice bow and leaves the viewers with a very content feeling in their hearts.

2. Elise

Released in 2019, “Elise” is about a boy named Bert who falls deeply in love with a strong and independent girl named Elise at a young age, only to be separated from her not too long after. The movie is told from the perspective of Bert reminiscing his life’s story and his many encounters with the elusive love of his life.

A masterpiece in its own right, “Elise” plays out like any typical romantic comedy in the beginning. But as the film progresses, we are shown the depth within its characters and story. Opposites attract, and nothing showcases this idea more perfectly than the electrifying chemistry between the main protagonists, Elise and Bert.

The film has very organic interactions between its perfectly cast actors and supporting characters that provide comic relief when needed. An extremely raw and impactful performance from the main character, Bert elevates the movie to another level, making you feel engrossed and captivated.

3. Crazy Romance

Released in 2019, “Crazy Romance” is about two individuals who recently broke up, building up a romance between one another through their less-than-ideal characteristics and personality traits.

The film has a very different approach to the standard romance trope, utilising the main character’s alcoholic tendencies as the main driving force and trigger for their romantic relationship. The movie is set in a much more modern era than most romance movies we’re used to, providing an extra sense of relatability when watching the film.

The two main love interests in the show are realistic and flawed. There is nothing over-the-top or extravagant about the things they do for one another unlike some couples we see in other more idealistic type RomComs. Their playful bickering and drunk flirting feel natural and creates an entertaining atmosphere.

We at A Little Seed feel that it doesn’t matter if you’re watching these movies alone, with a friend, a lover or maybe even your pet dog/cat/hamster/lizard….. We hope that you’ll enjoy them as thoroughly as we did; they are all available on Apple TV (iTunes Movie store) here:
